Every year, the same question surfaces on every CA forum in late September: will CBDT extend the audit deadline again? Based on the last three years’ pattern, here’s what practitioners need to know — and what to do regardless of whether an extension comes.
The Extension Pattern (Last 3 Cycles)
- AY 2024-25: Corporate ITR deadline extended from 31 October to 15 November 2024.
- AY 2025-26 (last year): Audit report deadline extended from 30 September to 31 October 2025; ITR for audit cases further extended to 10 December 2025 — following representations from ICAI, BCAS, and directions from the Gujarat, Punjab & Haryana, and Rajasthan High Courts citing flood disruptions and portal load.
- Pattern to note: In every extension so far, Transfer Pricing reports (Form 3CEB) were explicitly excluded — that deadline held firm at 31 October regardless of audit report extensions. Don’t assume TP relief just because audit dates move.
